Scan to FTP on Ubuntu 10, 11

VSFTPD – Very Secure File Transfer Protocol Daemon


Installing VSFTP:
Go to Applications > Accessories > Terminal

run,

sudo apt-get install vsftpd

Editing VSFTP config file:

back up first the original vsftp config file.

run,

sudo cp /etc/vsftpd.conf /etc/vsftpd.conf.orig

then run,

sudo nano /etc/vsftpd.conf

edit the vsftpd config file,

find the “write_enable=YES” and uncomment it. (remove # before the command)

to customize welcome banner, uncomment “ftpd_banner” and replace the txt after the equal sign.

on your keyboard,

hit CTRL+X

type in,

y

and hit Enter to save the config file.

 

Starting FTP service:

In the terminal run,

sudo service vsftpd start

check if your FTP service is up

telnet [ip address] [port number]

ex: telnet 192.168.22.74 21

If your FTP is configured correctly you will see something like the image above.

 

Configuring the Kyocera MFP

Host name: IP address of Ubuntu PC, e.g. 192.168.22.74

Port Number: 21

Path: Leave it blank

Login User Name: Ubuntu username, e.g. ryel

Login Password: Ubuntu password
